The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, in partnership with My Sustainable Canada, was recently tasked with the job of developing Canada’s first Health Care Food Service Resource Guide for ENERGY STAR qualified products. The Resulting document is available for download from our website HERE. A 2011 survey of food service managers conducted by the Coalition formed part of the groundwork for the project which investigated the types of kitchen equipment and appliances currently in use in long-term-care and acute care sites. The 34-page full colour best practice guide looks at typical health care food service and nutrition areas, provides a sample equipment audit worksheet, over 25 energy savings business case comparisons (ENERGY STAR vs non-ENERGY STAR qualified), a “before you buy checklist,” and an FAQ section to help you begin planning your move to a more energy efficient food service department. The publication is rounded out with appropriate sample procurement language, environmentally responsible food service tips, a multi-page reference section and results from the Local Food for Heath Care Study.
