Ontario Hospital Association’s HealthAchieve – Green Lane
HealthAchieve Show Management in partnering with Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care is proud to present the Green Lane on the exhibit floor. Organizations providing environmentally friendly products and services gather together in the Green Lane to showcase innovative ways to help our facilities save energy, reduce pollution and make healthier, greener choices.
Ontario Hospital Association’s HealthAchieve – Education Sessions
The Coalition and partner, the Ontario Hospital Association, have featured some of Canada’s most gifted speakers on environmental sustainability issues including a number of world-renowned keynote speakers including Justin Trudeau, Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Kirsty Duncan and Bob Rae.

– Venture Green
Coalition members have also been involved in the development and deployment of the Venture Green programme on the HealthAchieve exhibit floor. In addition to companies accepted into the Green Lane, the “Venture Green” logo is also awarded to selected companies that may have a specific “green” product or service that they want to promote. Ontario Green Health Care Awards
This joint award fostered by the Ontario Hospital Association and the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, now in its 7th year, honours leading hospitals in Ontario and recognizes green health care successes in Energy Efficiency, Pollution Prevention, Overall Leadership, and Individual Leadership.
Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society Green Park
A collaborative effort that saw the introduction of a green vendor area within the Society’s National Trade Show & Education Forum featuring suppliers of environmentally-friendly goods and services. (2008 Toronto, 2009 St. John’s, planned 2010 Whistler)

Turning Healthcare Green (November 2009)
A a one-day learning and networking event showcasing successful implementations of environmentally sustainable strategies and solutions for healthcare facilities. Presented by Canadian Healthcare Manager in co-operation with the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care.
Resource Paper #1: Waste Reduction & Recycling Resource
Prepared on behalf of the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care by Sue Maxwell, Ed Rubinstein, and Kent Waddington. While recycling programs have grown in popularity in recent years, recycling materials still presents a significant environmental impact through the use of resources for transporting and processing recyclable items. Because of this, recycling programs should be considered in conjunction with strong reduction and reuse programs that minimize the number products and supplies being produced and, in turn, disposed. Group EMS Peer Assistance
A group of six healthcare facilities- Bluewater Health (Sarnia), Chatham Healthcare Alliance, Cote de Neige Hospital (Montreal), Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto), London Health Science Centre and St. Peters Hospital (Hamilton) participated in the simultaneous development of an environmental management system (EMS) in order to improve the implementation of prevention based environmental initiatives. The project was supported by the Internet based Oxegen EMS software system and received financial support from Health Canada-Office of Sustainable Development. Member organization the Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention facilitated four daylong workshops. Each of participating health care facilities hosted a workshop. The workshops involved group exercises, discussions and guest speakers with the objective of providing a framework.
Thermometer Exchange
Mercury Thermometer Round-Up Day – February 13, 2003. Mercury is hazardous to your health and our environment. The Coalition was pleased to partner with six Ontario hospitals to invite staff, patient families and visitors to exchange their mercury thermometer from home or office with a safer digital thermometer. Thanks to the University Health Network, Women's College Ambulatory Care Centre, the Hospital for Sick Children, St. Mary's General Hospital, Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Grand River Hospital for their leadership in making our hospitals and environment healthier.

Case Studies for the Ontario Health Care Sector
In partnership with the Toronto Environmental Alliance and the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, the Coalition assisted in the development of 10 case studies. The case studies illustrated the innovative methods used by health care facilities to protect the environment.
